Albert Einstein
This original quote from Albert Einstein has been adapted and adopted by people like Henry Ford in his quote:
“If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.”
And most recently by Tony Robbins in his quote:
“If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten”
At the end of the day, whoever said it is not as important as the message within. When we take this quote in its business context, the message is actually very simple - yet surprisingly – it’s extremely difficult for business owners to accept.
All true entrepreneurs have a desire to grow their business and create a legacy, yet somehow they expect their businesses to grow without changing anything they do. It’s true that your business’ current success is mostly as a result of what you have done to date, but in an ever-changing environment, and with the Covid19 Tsunami, that recipe of success could become a death trap particularly with technology developing so fast.
It’s so easy to get left behind. Witness how the iconic home video company, Blockbuster Video, stubbornly failed to acknowledge the rise of online streaming. Even at the 11th hour, new boys, Netflix, offered Blockbuster a major share of their booming business for $50million but Blockbuster refused; before declaring bankruptcy with $900million in debts.
Our world is changing at a rapid rate with no one able to really keep up, but as long as you realise you need to do things differently and that you need to evolve and adapt your business, you are on the right track.
Don’t wait for the bandwagon to show up, strive to be the driver. Start the next bandwagon!
